Thursday 8th July
Good morning everyone!! Here is what we are doing today. All work needs to be recorded or glued inside your blue book that you took home yesterday.
Lesson 1 - Maths
We have just finished some work on reading scales and measuring weight. Today, we are going to start a series of lessons on volume and capacity. Capacity is the amount a container can hold. We will be measuring this in litres (l) and millilitres (ml). You might want to find some drinks bottles you have in the house and see if you can find the capacity measurement on them. This will give you an idea of how much 1 litre is worth.
Today's lesson starts with an activity video which you just need to watch and work through...
This is followed by another video which talks about volume. Volume is the amount of space that is filled by something. For example, if a glass is half filled with water, the volume is the amount of space inside the glass that is filled with water. Remember - This is different to capacity, which is how much the glass can hold in total when it is full. Work through this video, which is a straightforward Y2 recap lesson, and then complete the activity sheet below. It is a nice and easy start to this block of lessons.
Lesson 2 - English
Today, I have set you a reading comprehension activity linked to the England football captain, Harry Kane. Hopefully, England will be in the final by the time you read this!! Scroll down the document attached. There are 3 versions of the text and questions. (1 star, 2 star, 3 star). If you are in Group 1 - please complete the 1 star sheet. Group 2 - You can choose between 2 and 3 star. If you fancy a challenge, the 3-star activity is pitched at Year 4 level with more text and ambitious vocabulary. The answers are all included in the document.
Lesson 3 - Practise your spellings!
You can spend 20 minutes practising your spellings either by logging in to Spelling Shed or in your books using the strategies you have been shown in class: Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check; pyramid writing; silly sentences, etc. The word lists were posted on Dojo on Monday.
Lesson 4 - PE
Have a look at the grid of whole school personal challenges attached below, and choose any 6 of them to complete. (Remember - you are in Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4)). Good Luck!
