Wednesday 3rd March

Lesson 1 - Maths

In this lesson, we begin comparing lengths in metres and centimetres and understanding which is the appropriate unit of measurement to use to measure the lengths of different objects. This is a recap lesson from Year 2, which eases you in to this objective before we tackle this at Year 3 level on Friday. Both groups need to work through the video below and then complete the activity sheet.

Compare lengths

Lesson 2 - Reading

Read 'Dear Neighbours' and answer the questions.

Lesson 3 - English

'The Lost Thing' - Plot Point 7. Complete plot point 7 using the thinking side and writing side support sheets in the same way as you have in previous lessons. Remember to use a thesaurus to see if you can add to Mrs C's suggestions with more of your own.

Use the log-in details sent on Dojo to access the zoom call.

Lesson 4 - Topic

In this lesson, you will learn all about the famous 'Battle of Marathon' which was fought in September 490 BC on the plain of Marathon - just a few miles away from Athens. It was a fight between the Athenians and the Persians. The Persians already ruled over a large area of land and they were trying to invade Greece and take over under King Darius I. Even though the Athenians were massively outnumbered, they would win the battle and defend Athens from the Persian invasion. When the battle was over, the Athenians sent a runner called Pheidippides to run back to Athens to tell them of their victory. This is where marathons, which are ran all over the world today, get their name from and have a distance of 26 miles. Find out how the Athenians were successful by working through the PowerPoint below and then complete the activity where you need to put the events of the story in order.

Here is an amusing clip from BBC Horrible Histories, which retells what happens at the Battle of Marathon. Enjoy!
