Religious Education

At St Monica’s, Religious Education is at the heart of our curriculum and everything we do. We follow Lighting the Path, published by Oxford University Press, which supports the Religious Education Directory, To Know You More Clearly. Through a rich, Scripture-led curriculum, children deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith, explore the teachings of Jesus and discover how to live out their faith in everyday life. Our learning is organised around six branches:

  • Creation and Covenant,
  • Prophecy and Promise,
  • Galilee to Jerusalem,
  • Desert to Garden,
  • To the Ends of the Earth, and
  • Dialogue and Encounter.

These branches guide children through the story of salvation, helping them to develop their understanding of Scripture, Catholic beliefs, prayer and worship, while encouraging them to reflect, ask meaningful questions and engage respectfully with other faiths and worldviews. Through Religious Education, we nurture children’s spiritual and moral development, empowering them to love, learn and grow as cherished members of God’s family, following the example of St Monica and becoming the people God calls them to be.
