WHO ARE OUR SCHOOL GOVERNORS?

Matt Callaghan

Foundation Governor and Chair of Governors

I am married to Jayne and our children benefited from a wonderful education here at St. Monica’s. Our youngest son left the school in 2022. We have two granddaughters.

I have lived and worked in Urmston all my adult life and been a member of the parish community for 30 years. I have been on the Governing Board for about 20 years and am proud to hold the post of Chair of Governors having previously chaired the Premises, Health & Safety Committee.

I work in adult social care and in my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, listening to music and watching football.

Andrew Fahey

Associate Governor

I am married to Sue, and we have 6 children who all attended St Monica’s and all benefited from their time at the School still remembering fondly the nurture and the care.

I was born and have lived in Urmston all my life and have been a member of our parish for many years supporting our School and our Faith.

I have been a Governor at the school for 24 years serving in many capacities including Chair and Vice Chair of Governors.  My current role is as Chair of the Resource Committee and support to Matt as the Chair of Governors.

I run a local family business, and my favourite pastime is spending time with my family.

Helen Cooper

Foundation Governor

Having attended St Monica’s as a pupil in the 1980s, I returned to the school as a parent, when my eldest daughter started Nursery. I am an active member of St John Henry Newman Parish, volunteering as a Parish Family Group leader, Impact! support leader and member of the Parish Steering Group. My career has been based in Primary Education, spending over twenty-two years as a primary school teacher. I am committed to the strong Catholic ethos of the school, where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential in a safe and happy environment.

David Bullock

Foundation Governor

Prior to my retirement I served as a police officer in Greater Manchester and North Yorkshire. I then spent twelve years as a teaching assistant in different Trafford schools, my last post being at St Teresa’s in Firswood.  I have a long family association with St Monica’s.  I was married in the parish church and my wife and daughter were both St Monica’s pupils.  My wife also taught here for nearly ten years.

Dawn Wilkinson

Foundation Governor

I became part of the St Monica’s family when we moved into Flixton and my 3 children joined the school 25 years ago. I soon discovered what a special place it is.

I volunteered in the Reception class for many years and have been an active member of the Parish, involved in Children’s Liturgy, Impact youth group and currently the Parish Family Groups.

It is an honour to now be a member of the Governing Board.

Louise Whiting

Parent Governor

My name is Louise Whiting, I am married to James and have 2 boys aged 7 and 9. Having moved to Trafford about 7 years ago I was delighted when both of my boys were accepted into St Monica’s PS and feel privileged to hold the position as Parent Governor.

I am originally from Ireland and currently work as a Senior Leader in a secondary school in Tameside.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling and listening to music.

Norman Green.

Foundation Governor.  Chair of ‘Quality of Education Committee’

I am married to Anne–Marie and we have been members of the Parish of St. Monica for forty- two years. Both my children attended St Monica’s. I have been a Foundation Governor for twelve years and until recently was also Vice- Chair of Governors.

I was, up to retirement, an Assistant Headteacher in a large Catholic Secondary School where I also taught English and German. My teaching career has all been spent in the Catholic sector.

Until the arrival of grandchildren I was an active playing member of several amateur orchestras in the North West but now my time is spent enjoying being a Grandfather!

Michelle Cosgrove

Staff Governor and Deputy Headteacher

I was lucky enough to be appointed Deputy Headteacher at St Monica’s in September 2019 and it is true what visitors say about our school, there really is something special about it – our children and our Catholic ethos.

I am committed to Catholic education and have worked in Catholic primary education for just under 14 years, beginning my teaching career in Wythenshawe. During this time, I have taught across most year groups and have taken on a variety of responsibilities and roles across the senior leadership team. I am passionate that all children, regardless of their starting point, should have the opportunity to reach their full potential so that they can go on to be confident, successful members of society.

I am a member of my local parish community and outside of school, my husband and I have recently been lucky enough to welcome our first child, a beautiful daughter. In my spare time I love spending time with family, going on trips and walking my pet dog Rocky.
